Over spring break I was at an indoor water park with my kids and a little girl walked by wearing a store bought Flamingo Hooded Towel. And in that moment I knew exactly what my next hooded towel tutorial would be. How could I resist a bright pink, goofy looking, cute flamingo?! So, here you go Flamingo lovers! The newest hooded towel:
Totally goofy but totally endearing right? Who has a little one that would love this?
So let’s make this cutie!
FLAMINGO HOODED TOWEL PATTERN:
Supplies Needed:
Hot pink hooded towel (mine came from Target)
Matching hand towel
Small amounts of white and black fabric
Small amounts of Heat n Bond or other iron on paper backed adhesive
Tiny bit of cotton stuffing
Flamingo Hooded Towel Pattern Pieces
Instructions:
As always, I am just going to teach you to make the actual head here. I have instructions on how to construct the full hooded towel here.
So, to make this head, go ahead and cut out all of your pieces from the pattern.
Cut your pink hand towel in half horizontally.
Fold the selvaged edge (not the one you just cut) under about 3 inches and sew it in place.
Take your piece of pink nose and place it so that it lines up right at the folded under edge of the towel. Sew an applique stitch (tight zigzag) all the way around the pink nose part, but leave the bottom open.
Iron the Heat n Bond to the back of your eyes. Place them where you want them just near the top of the nose and iron them in place.
Now sew around the eyes and eyeballs with an applique.
Take a tiny bit of stuff and stuff it into the nose.
Sew around the edges of the black nose, leaving the flat edge open. Turn right side out and press flat.
Place the black nose just on top of the bottom of the pink nose and applique it in place.
Now fold the face in half with the face on the inside and sew up the back, raw edge to form the hood.
Place your hood like this:
And cut off the top tip. This is where the little head feather thing will go. Sew the two pink pieces of the little feathers together leaving the flat part open and turn right side out. Tuck it into the cut you just made and sew that whole thing close.
WARNING-this will mean you are sewing through MANY layers of towel all at once. If your machine can’t handle many layers, you might want to skip this part OR create the head feather thing out of something other than towel-something thinner.
Now attach the head to the towel and you are all set!
