Hi friends! I feel like maybe I owe you a little bit of an apology for being so MIA lately! I keep thinking life will calm down and I will get a handle on blogging again, but it keeps not! I’ve been out of town off and on through most of September and yes, they were all FUN vacations, but it’s made it hard to keep up with the blog! And sewing tutorials take serious time to put together and get put on the back burner sometimes, PLUS, I’ve got the new blog that I am trying to get off the ground too. BUT, today I have great news! A new sewing tutorial for you. It’s a Cinderella Apron Pattern and Tutorial:
I’ve had this one up my sleeve for a while and was really excited to make it because I thought you guys would love it! But as long as we are being honest today-I’m not sure about it? It’s so simple and I *think* it looks Cinderella-ish. But it’s a VERY simple Cinderella. I hope you guys like it!
I’m hoping to do some other princess aprons, or even some fun things for boys. If you have one you would love to see, let me know what!
CINDERELLA APRON PATTERN:
Supplies Needed:
1 yard each of two shades of blue fabric
Pattern Piece: Cinderella Apron Dress Piece
Pattern Piece: Cinderella Apron Top
Instructions:
Print your pattern pieces.
Cut 4 light blue pieces from your dress piece pattern.
With your darker blue fabric, fold it in half and use your apron top pattern to begin to cut. You will want two pieces of this. Start with that piece that I have given you and then continue down. You’ll have to freehand the bottom yourself. The length of my apron is 22 inches from the center of the neck to the bottom and I rounded the bottom corners a little bit. I tried it on my five year old and it was long on him, but not terribly. So you can adjust depending on the kid that you are making this for and make it the length you need.
You will also want to cut two straps from the light blue that are 4-5 inches wide by about 30 inches long.
Cut one neck strap that is 4 inches wide by about 16 inches long.
With your straps, fold them in half lengthwise (right sides together if you have right sides) and sew up the long sides. Turn right side out and press flat with the seam in the center of the back. On the two side straps (the long ones), fold one end so that the ends are inside and sew that closed. Set your straps aside.
Now grab two of your dress pieces and sew them together leaving a small opening on the flat side to turn. Turn right side out, press flat, press the opening closed and stitch shut. Do the same with your other two dress pieces.
Now get your two full size apron pieces. Place them together with right sides on the inside. Place your apron neck strap at the top with the ends sticking out a little bit and the rest of it tucked in between your apron pieces: (please ignore the rounded top of the blue part in this picture. I originally designed this pattern slightly differently but I have since changed it. Yours should be a flat edge.)
You’ll do the same with your side straps. Insert them about 3 inches below the armpit on each side of the apron with the ends out and the straps tucked into the apron.
Now, sew all the way around the apron leaving a small opening to turn at the bottom.
You will want to clip your curves (short snips that don’t go all the way to the seam) at all the rounded parts.
Turn right side out and use scissors or something similar to press all the edges all the way out and then iron it nice and flat. Press the opening closed then stitch it shut.
Now place your two dress pieces so that they meet in the center and angle up to the bottom part of the armpits:
Stitch both of those in place across the top.
And you’re done! I hope your little princess loves it!
