DIY Tutorial | T-Shirt to Stuffie

Meet my 7 year old, Mr. Man. This is his favorite shirt of all time.

And this is how it fits. Too small. I told him it was time to let the t shirt go to someone that it would fit. Maybe we could even hang onto it for his little brother to use later.

Obviously he wasn’t thrilled with that idea. So I had to do some quick thinking while he was playing in the other room. What could I do to make this shirt last a little longer for him? And how could I get him to stop trying to sneak to wear it?

Easy! Make it into a stuffie !

Do you have a t shirt that your little one is hard pressed to let go of? Let’s turn it into something special. And guess what? This is going to take you 10 minutes, tops.

You’ll need…
a t-shirt
sewing machine
thread
scissors
a pen
fiber fill
a needle
pins

Let’s get started.

Turn the t shirt inside out and trace around the design. It doesn’t have to be perfect. I pinky promise. It’ll turn out awesome no matter how messy that line is.

Pin around the line. Seriously, pins everywhere. Because t shirt material can get shifty, don’t skimp out on pinning.

Sew around the lines leaving a 2 inch space open on the side. You want the space open so you can turn it!

Once you’ve sewn around the edges, cut around the sewn line. I used pinking shears but any pair of scissors will work. Turn it right side out and stuff it! Plan on using more stuffing than you think you’ll need. Trust me on that.

Now that it’s stuffed, you’ll need to close that open space. Using a needle and thread, sew it shut using a ladder stitch. If you’ve never done a ladder stitch before, you can find a great tutorial by clicking here. See? Super easy!

And then the final step. Give it to your kiddo and watch the happiness ensue.
