DIY Tutorial | Child Apron Sewing

My boys love to help me in the kitchen, especially when I’m baking. My six and two year old will never turn down the opportunity to dump in the ingredients, stir, decorate or sneak a taste. While they do a surprising good job helping, they do get a bit messy. A simple apron can make all the difference. They both love to wear an apron so they can be more like me.

Jamie of Some of This and That has created the perfect apron for boys that you can make yourself!

Materials Needed:

1 yard of each coordinating fabric (total of 2 yards)
Satin Ribbon
Thread in coordinating color
Sewing Machine
Iron
Scissors
Pins
Poster board or a large sheet of paper to draw out this apron pattern

Directions:

Measure out pattern and cut it out.

Fold main color fabric in half and place the long end of the pattern even with the folded edge of fabric. Pin into place and cut fabric out. Repeat this process with the coordinating fabric.

Place each piece of fabric together “pretty” side in. Cut each strip of ribbon and place them on the inside of the folded fabric, ¼ inch from the edges. To make the sewing easier, pin the straps into place to avoid them from moving.

Pin around the entire apron.

Starting at the bottom of the apron using an overlocking stitch, sew around the entire apron with the exception of the bottom of the apron.

Remove from sewing machine and turn apron right side out. Fold the bottom hem in of the apron ¼ inch and iron flat. Sew the bottom hem closed and you are done!
